About us

Laura

Nicknamed "Tea Monkey" (because she makes a lot of tea and everyone and everything is a monkey) Laura is the smallest of the pair. Having wanted to play violin since she was about 4, she finally got her first fiddle at 10. Starting out with strict classical training, she got bored of this and started to rebel by playing along to Chieftains CDs. Several years later however, she found bluegrass which seemed even more fun, and equally as important, faster! Bluegrass led both the twins to Sore Fingers Summer Schools where they heard the dobro for the first time when Sally Van Meter was teaching there. Laura was hooked and decided to take it up about a year later.

Laura's favourite bands are: the Nashville Bluegrass Band, the South Austin Jug Band, Punch Brothers, Crooked Still, Uncle Earl, the Infamous Stringdusters and Blue Highway.

When not playing music, she enjoys walking or even better, skiing in Austria as well as painting. She loves giraffes and greyhounds, her favourite colour is green, and she spends a little too much time talking about her violins aka her babies.

Charlotte

First and foremost is Charlotte's mandolin, which is almost a part of her. She also loves her guitar and feels the need to own an octave mandolin one day.

As well as tuning her instruments, Charlotte also enjoys anything outdoors particularly skiing, walking, cycling, doughnuting and body boarding. She likes Toby (the dog), lions and cows - many of which she has terrified with her attempts to hug them (thankfully she hasn't come across any lions yet or the duo may turn into a solo act!).

Her favourite bands are: Punch Brothers, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, Growling Old Men, the Infamous Stringdusters and Phillips, Grier and Flinner - in fact anything with Matt Flinner in it. She also enjoys botanical painting although doesn't have time to do any!
